DIXIE (MISSISSAUGA)

Dixie is a Mississauga community that lies in the south-eastern part of the city and is one of the older neighbourhoods in the city.  The name of the neighbourhood dates back to the Village of Dixie at the corner of Cawthra Road and Dundas Street West in south part of the city. The village was named in honour of Dr. Beaumont Dixie, a settler whom paid for the establishment of the Union Chapel, a multi-denominational Protestant church in the village in 1865.
